Natural Number
Non-negative whole numbers used for counting.
- Some textbooks start at 1 instead of 0.
- Foundation of indexing and combinatorics.
- Subtraction is not closed in N.
When to use: Anything you count in ML: samples, features, layers, tokens.
Example: 60,000 training images, 784 pixels each, 3 hidden layers - all natural numbers.
